Board Certified Behavior Analysts

Board Certified Behavior Analysts

The role of the BCBA is to provide therapeutic services based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to Verbal Beginnings’ clients. The position involves the assessment, development, implementation, training, supervision, and monitoring of home, school and community based ABA programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct functional behavior assessments.
  • Develop treatment plans based on the principles of ABA to address communication, feeding, behavior, ADLs and social skills.
  • Design data collection systems to track and evaluate client progress on treatment plan objectives.
  • Update treatment plans as necessary.
  • Provide 1:1 ABA therapy in home, school and community-based environments.
  • Supervise ABA Technicians implementing ABA based treatment plans.
  • Coordinate ABA Technicians schedules with the family.
  • Train family members on implementing the treatment plan.
  • Insure that the child is in a safe and positive environment at all times.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of Verbal Beginnings, LLC.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
  • Experience working in and developing home, school and community based ABA programs.
  • Experience supervising paraprofessionals implementing ABA based treatment programs.
  • Completion of supervision training
  • Hold a current Maryland State License (if applicable)
  • Experience working with children with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience working with children with behavior problems.
  • Experience conducting family trainings on ABA based treatment plans.
  • Excellent communication skills.
ABA Technicians


ABA Technicians

The role of the ABA Technician is to provide home, school and community based ABA services to Verbal Beginnings’ clients.  This includes the implementation of a treatment plan developed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) addressing communication, behavior, feeding, ADLs and social skills.  The Behavior Technician will also monitor the progress of a treatment plan and work closely with the BCBA to update the treatment plan as necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 ABA therapy in home, school and community based environments
  • Implement individualized treatment plans developed by BCBAs
  • Collect data to monitor the progress and effectiveness of the individualized treatment plan.
  • Provide regular written and verbal progress updates on treatment goals.
  • Support the BCBA with training families on implementing individualized treatment plans.

Nationally Certified Professional through the BACB

  • Responsible for obtaining and maintaining RBT and BLS certifications
    (Red Cross & American Heart Association offer BLS courses – it must be an in-person course to be accepted for the position)
  • Eligible for up to a $5/hour increase

RBT Certification Requirements:

  • 40-hour RBT training (or alternative equivalent training)
    Criminal Background Registry Check no more than 45 days prior to applying for the credential
  • RBT competency assessment using the RBT task list
  • After 12/14/15 the RBT exam will be required
  • To maintain certification you must have an RBT competency assessment completed once per year and renew your application and attestation to the requirements for the credential

Internships at the Verbal Beginnings Center

Verbal Beginnings Center is looking for motivated and enthusiastic interns interested in learning about the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with an emphasis on Verbal Behavior (VB).  Internship opportunities include training in basic principles of learning, effective teaching procedures used to teach children with autism and other developmental disabilities, direct observation of clients at the center, and hands-on work related to client and client goals. Trainings will be conducted by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or a dually certified Speech-Language Pathologist/Board Certified Behavior Analyst (SLP/BCBA).  Interns must either be completing an undergraduate program in a related field (i.e. Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Speech-Language Pathology, Special Education, or Early Childhood Education) or completing a Master’s program in a related field.  Based on performance, there will be a potential opportunity for interns to complete the requirements to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) © through Verbal Beginnings, LLC and/or furthering their career as a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) © or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) ©.

Externship Opportunities for Masters students in SLP

Verbal Beginnings Center (VBC) is looking for motivated and enthusiastic SLP students who are interested in learning about the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with an emphasis on Verbal Behavior (VB).  Internship opportunities include training in basic principles of learning, effective teaching procedures used to teach children with autism and other developmental disabilities, direct observation of clients at the center, and hands-on work related to client and client goals.
